After my Kidmin/Orange marathon, this is how I feel
Posted on02. May, 2010 by Kenny.
Every year I look forward to my week at Orange. Rather than just take in a few days of conference, I try to get the biggest bang for my buck. I get to Atlanta a few days early to see some family as well as visit North Point Church or some other church so I can observe and learn from what others are doing. Then the conference begins and I typically have every minute booked. In addition to attending the conference and breakouts, I’m meeting people having conversations and learning from others. Typically, every meal is booked and I’m rarely back to my hotel room before midnight.
I love it; however, I think I’m done with marathon conference tours for a while. Next time I’ll come in for the conference and then I’ll go back home. It’s a lot of time to be away from my family. I miss them. It’s an entire week to be away from my team and my work. Although I usually come back from these conferences pretty pumped up and ready to charge forward, I just feel it’s a little too much.
So, it was fun. I’m looking forward to processing all I’ve learned, both from Orange and from the churches I’ve visited. I’ve also got a project or two that I’m ready to tackle. I’m kind of excited about those too. Today’s my last day in Atlanta, I’m going to enjoy it the best I can and then get back to my real life tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who made this year’s Kidmin/Orange marathon a total blast!

#Orange10 Meat Up @ the Varsity
Posted on20. Apr, 2010 by Kenny.
What? Yes, I wrote that right, it’s a Meat Up! It’s not an official Orange event by any means. The official Tweet Up is on Wednesday night (April 28th) at 10:00 PM. This is just a little get together the night before.
Last year we held the first Tweet Up at the Varsity on Tuesday, the night before everything started. I can’t tell you how helpful it was to get to know some people, put names to faces and hang out a little before the business of Orange. That way when I saw people in the halls walking around, I already knew them. I also love the Varsity. Anytime I’m in Atlanta, I go at least one time. Their Onion Rings are incredible. Whether you like hot dogs or hamburgers, the Varsity won’t do you wrong! It’s a city landmark and I wouldn’t miss it.
So, if you’re in Atlanta on Tuesday night, April 27th, feel free to join me at the Varsity for a little Meat Up action. I’ll be there with people like Jonathan Cliff, Sam Luce, Gina McClain, Matt McKee and others. You don’t have to be a blogger or on twitter. Just someone who wants to hang out with other kidmin and stumin leaders. We’ll probably arrive a little before 9:00 PM and hang out for a few hours. Hope to see you there!
BTW, there’s more than one varsity. We’ll be at the one in down town ATL, the original:
61 North Ave Northwest
Atlanta, GA 30308-2166

Register for Orange TODAY!
Posted on18. Mar, 2010 by Kenny.
If you haven’t registered for Orange yet and you’re heavily considering going, go ahead and register TODAY. Today is the last day for any price break. Register TODAY!
There are so many reasons why you should go to Orange, but I’m not going to list them in this blog post. Just search Orange in the search bar to the right and you’ll get your fill. If you fill stuck in a rut in your ministry or if you feel like you’re not making the difference you should be, Orange is for you. Sure, Orange has a ministry philosophy that’s helped thousands of churches, but just getting in the same room with big thinkers in ministry can help you see your situation from a different perspective. You’ll hear great teaching, innovative ideas in breakouts, but some of the best parts of Orange are the conversations in the hallways, in hotel lobbies and restaurants surrounding the venue.
This year there’s a central meeting place called the Orange Leaders Lounge. It’s a place to come and talk life and ministry. It’s filled with a bunch of big thinkers in ministry who want to shoot the breeze as well as talk ministry victories and woes. It’s a great place for every leader to grow, connect, be encouraged and walk away with new ideas and perspectives.
So, Orange is a great place to bring you team. You can grow together. Click here to register your team. Orange is also a great place to go on your own. Consider it a time to personally recharge. Click here to register just you. Just don’t miss the opportunity. You can register tomorrow, it’s just going to cost a little more.

I’m registered for Orange 2010
Posted on13. Jan, 2010 by Kenny.
Yesterday I registered for the Orange Conference 2010! Due to a lot of reasons, I’m only taking a small group to this year’s conference, probably just my Children’s Pastors. Looks like I’m going to reprise my role in the lounge for bloggers, so I’m really excited about that. This will be by third year at Orange and I’m expecting great things. Just curious, who else is coming to Orange this year? Hoping to meet many more new ministry friends.
Mmmmm, thinking about the second annual Orange Tweetup… but this calls for something creative (gears actively turning). I’ll get back to you on this.

Spending the day at North Point and Buckhead
Posted on25. Apr, 2009 by Kenny.
I’m very excited about tomorrow. Last year I took the opportunity to attend Buckhead Church and see ministry in action. This year I’m doubling the fun. I’ll be driving up to North Point for the morning. Josh and I will take the official North Point tour during the first service. Then we’re going to attend the second service. Later that evening I’ll be attending Buckhead Church. I really loved the environment, so I want to experience it again.
Last year I really wanted to experience a large video campus. However, Andy preached live from Buckhead. I’m not complaining, but I didn’t get to see what I wanted to see. Since I will be attending a service at two different campuses, I’ve got a feeling that I might just get to experience at least one service on video.
I’ll also be hanging with family today. We’re spending the night tonight with Sara’s family, so after North Point we’ll come back and I’ll get some time with my nephew, neice and brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Then my mom and dad are driving up to Atlanta and will be meeting us at Buckhead. I haven’t see my mom and dad since Christmas, so this will be a treat. Don’t worry, I’ll post and tweet my experiences from tomorrow!

Official Orange Tweetup: Mark Your Calendar
Posted on17. Feb, 2009 by Kenny.
Last week I announced the Orange Tweetup. Seems like most are going to be able to make it. I do really hate that there are some people who will still be traveling and may not be able to make it, but I think overall, Tuesday night is the best night for this endeavor. Wednesday night would be the second ideal night as it’s still early in the conference and a good opportunity to meet people we’re going to see in the hallways; however, the conference doesn’t let out until 10:30 PM and the Varsity closes at 11:30 PM. Lunch time? Fighting the conference traffic, there just isn’t enough time for a popper Tweetup.
So, make your plans now! Tuesday at 9:00 at The Varsity in downtown Atlanta. Oh, I can taste it now… and feel the heartburn. I’m going to try to get pre-registered as early as possible and be at the Varsity by 8:30. I’ll post more information as we get closer. Let me know if you planning on coming and I’ll create a roster of attendees so everyone will know who’s coming.
For those of you who can’t make it, don’t fret, you’ll still get your chance. There are some things in the works where bloggers and twitterers will have multiple opportunities to hang out and connect. Get ready for the most “connected” conference you’ve ever been to.

North Point: Buckhead visit
Posted on27. Apr, 2008 by Kenny.
This morning I got up early to drive into Atlanta and visit Buckhead Church. Since being involved in multi-site churches, I’ve never experienced a video campus larger than 1000 people. So, I wanted to experience Buckhead Church, a multi-site video mega-church. I was hoping to see a video teaching experience in this large church setting as well as experience KidStuf, the family worship experience that North Point is known for.
Buckhead is amazing. If your ever in Atlanta, you’ll want to spend some time in Buckhead. It’s an amazing community/city. It’s a little north of downtown Atlanta, but it’s where all the good shopping and restaurants are. I’ve been told that it’s becoming a business/financial powerhouse. As you drive around the neighborhoods you’ll see that this is a very, VERY high dollar community. Well, the church is right in the middle of it all. All around the church are high rises, shopping centers and busy city life. The church uses several private parking lots and the police and host teams are out in force directing traffic. I was a little unsure how I would find where to go, but they made is very easy.
The church almost feels more like a really nice, big-city hotel. It’s beautiful. You come in and begin going up a couple of escalators to get to the main floor. The lobby is big and inviting and the auditorium is HUGE (I’m guessing that it seats 2500-3000). All the elements from pre-service video, introduction, worship and baptisms were incredibly smooth… they were working it. Then came the disappointment that wasn’t that much of a disappointment. I came to Buckhead to experience this video campus, but Andy Stanley was teaching live. Don’t get me wrong, I was glad to get to hear him live… but I wanted to see him on video (most campus pastors at video campuses would cry with joy to hear their attendees say that). I thoroughly enjoyed. Andy preached the absolute best sermon I’ve ever heard on faith. Hands down amazing. I’m sure you can get it off iTunes as some point. It’s the second message in the “Faith, Hope and Luck” message series.
After the service I attended Kid Stuf. I just had to see this family ministry stuff. I loved it. I laughed so hard, they did such a great job. The room was incredible. I can see how some would come in, see it and be discouraged, thinking there was no way they could pull that off. What comforts me is that Reggie talks about doing Kid Stuf in a school cafeteria when they were first getting started. Now that reThink publishes family ministry curriculum, you really just have to recruit and equip your teams.
So, Buckhead was great. So glad I got to see it. Now I’m really pumped for Orange to begin. I’ll be updating the blog throughout the conference. Oh, and if you’re at Orange, look me up… I’d love to meet you!

Stuff…
Posted on26. Apr, 2008 by Kenny.
Just arrived to Atlanta. Staying with some family tonight.
Planning to visit Buckhead Chruch in the morning. It’s a venue of North Point. It’s a very large venue, so I’m anxious to see a large, multi-site venue as my only experience is with seeing small venues.
I hope to get in and see KidStuf. Only heard great things about this family production. Hopefully they’ll let me in without bringing a family. I really should have called ahead this week.
A teenager I’m good friends with from Texas is in Atlanta for a national school competition. I’m going to try to take him to lunch tomorrow if possible.
I check in for Orange tomorrow night and check in to my hotel room. A co-worker from a church I once worked with is splitting a hotel room with me… that helps a ton and I’m looking forward to hanging out.
Anyone else going to be at Orange? Shoot me an email and we’ll try to arrange a meet-up!
