#Orange10 Tweet up
Posted on02. May, 2010 by Kenny.
On Wednesday night after the opening session of the Orange Conference, ministry leaders were in full force at the official Orange Tweet up at Coffee Perks in Duluth, GA. There were easily 50 people crowded into the quaint little coffee shop/cafe. Everyone got free coffee (or smoothie for non coffee drinkers like me)! Yum!
There was no structure or order to things, just two hours of mingling and getting to know each other. I got to meet a lot of people I’d been looking forward to connecting with. Some who’ve left comments on my blog for years yet we’ve never met as well as people with blogs I read on a regular basis. I found myself jumping from table to table, diving into conversations about ministry, a little bit of technology and whatever was going on in life.
Eventually we were kicked out of the coffee shop and a few remaining stragglers hung out another 20-30 minutes at the tables on the sidewalk. This is some of my favorite parts of Orange. It was so encouraging to see so many people come out, especially at this hour. I’d love to see it grow even more next year, or multiply. If you missed out this year, make sure you take the time to participate next year. You’ll be glad you did.
Thanks so much to Bree and the reThink team that put this together! Great Job!

#Orange10 Meat up to Tweet up
Posted on28. Apr, 2010 by Kenny.
Wow, how much fun! Last night’s casual meet up at the Varsity turned into quite the shindig. Over 30 Orange-minded leaders came out to gobble down some Varsity famous onion rings and and Orange shakes. It was a blast. We joked around, had fun and learned from each other.
In the two hours I was there (the Varsity finally kicked us out at 11:00 PM), I sat and talked family ministry/parenting ministry philosophy & staffing structure with Michale Chanley (as well as some cool new ideas he’s got for the future). He’s in a position that doesn’t exist in 99% of all other churches and there’s really a lot we can learn from what he’s doing. I caught up with what’s going on in my friend Jonathan Cliff’s life (his church is going through a huge capital campaign where out of it he’s getting a new, state of the art kids building). Anytime I get to sit and hang out with Jonathan is time well spent. Except, if you get up to go to the bathroom or order food, don’t leave your phone, he’ll tweet nice things about himself from your phone while you’re gone. I only got a few minutes to talk to Jim Wideman (I’ll get more time with him at dinner tonight), but I did get to play with his iPad for a few minutes. He’s as big an Apple fan as Reggie, he’s owned every Apple laptop that’s ever come out. I also got to hang out with Amy Fenton Lee for a few minutes (who I just met via email last week). She just launched the Inclusive Church blog a few weeks ago, a HUGE resource on Special Needs ministry. This blog’s going to be huge!
In addition to all that, I shook some hands, chatted a little and had a great time meeting some new ministry friends. It was so easy and so much fun. It’s got me really excited about the “official” Tweet Up tonight. It’s going to be so much fun as I expect many more people being that everyone going to Orange will have arrived. It’s at 10:00 at the Chocolate Perks. Click here for more details. Also, don’t forget to come visit us in the Orange Leader’s Lounge, it’s the 2nd floor of the Arena. Grab some coffee (it’s free) and hang out for a little while. I look forward to meeting you!

#Orange10: Two things not to miss
Posted on27. Apr, 2010 by Kenny.
Okay, I know that everyone is getting PUMPED for Orange. Right now people are on their way, heading to Atlanta in droves. So much hype! So much excitement. WAIT. STOP.
Slow down just for a second. You need to read this. There are two things you need to know right now, so go ahead and tattoo it to your brain.
Orange Leaders Lounge. You’ve probably heard about it already. Don’t let these three little words become white noise… something familiar. Orange Leaders Lounge. Say it with me. Orange Leaders Lounge. Don’t just come up to check it out. Come up and hang out. I promise you, it’s going to be better than browsing the resource tables. Don’t be shy, introduce yourself to someone and strike up a conversation. If I see you, I’ll do my best to strike up a conversation with you to take off the pressure. Let’s learn from each other and engage in ministry stories and ideas. That’s the the lounge is about. If you come to the Orange Conference this year and don’t connect with some people in the lounge, you’re going to go home having missed out on a pretty big piece of Orange.
Tweet Up. You’re going to be so stoked after the opening session on Wednesday night. You’re here. It’s happening, You’re going to feel a little crazy. However, you’ve probably been traveling. You’re starting to feel a little tired. You’re thinking about going back to the hotel so you can get some sleep. Don’t do it. I know, it’s tempting, but don’t do it. Come to the Tweet Up. It’s from 10:00-11:30. Get some chocolate or some coffee. Hang out with some killer leaders in family ministry. It’s a chance to connect and grow. Yeah, it’s a tweet up which means it’s for people who twitter, but seriously, we can probably work something out if you’re not into the twitter thing. Just come. You need to be there. Just come.
Okay, that’s it. You can go back to what you were doing previously.
